Sacchan Talks About Karamazov no Kyodai

Another post cause I'm running away from reality (from revisions for the finals in two weeks, aaargh)
But before that, a shameless plug. Follow meeee! And say hi :3
The Brothers Karamazov, the Japanese drama. Starring Saito Takumi, Ichihara Hayato, and Hayashi Kento as the threemusketeers Kurosawa brothers.
I never knew this existed until Poe-san (
tomapiya) posted it on the
light_of_angels community, so if you're reading this, THANK YOU SO MUCH <3

Theeee story is based off of Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel "The Brothers Karamazov", though honestly I don't know what exactly they took from the novel since I just know it exists and nothing about what it's actually... well... about. I mean. Just bits and pieces from wikipedia entries haha.
Now let me try and write what it's about without too much spoilers or nonsense... I honestly tried writing my own synopsis, I really did, but it went too far off course and it just didn't make any sense. So here's what the wiki says pft.

In the town of Karasumi, most of the lands are owned by Kurosawa Bunzo, the head of the Kurosawa family and the owner of a real estate and construction company called 'Kurosawa'. Though Bunzo is much hated by the people of Karasume, due to his greed and profiteering ways, no one dares to stand up to him. The townsfolk came up with the saying, "Kurosawa loves alcohol, money and women".
Bunzo has 3 sons, the eldest being Mitsuru, who was born to his first wife. Followed by Isao and Ryo, who are the sons of his second wife, Shiori. Mitsuru is currently unemployed and is debt-ridden, and thus leads a miserable, tight lifestyle living together with Endo Kanako. While, Isao who graduated from a prestigious law school and passed his bar examinations in one sitting, is now working for a law firm in Tokyo. Ryo is studying to be a psychiatrist, and is now in his fourth year of medical school. He lives in a dormitory near his hometown.
One day, Bunzo is found dead in his bedroom, under very suspicious circumstances. The police rounded up all three sons, and brings them in for some voluntary questioning. The detective already knows each of their motives for killing Bunzo, where it all started 2 weeks before the murder at the Kurosawa family meeting... --Fuji TV (source)
I finished watching this in four days. FOUR DAYS. I don't watch dramas that quickly. I rarely watch anything that quickly. I really really really like it for some reason, and I have so much to say about it! But I will just mention what I remember. That should keep things short. Also, spoiler free.
In the wiki it's written that it's suspense, but I'd like to just personally add on mystery and psychological hahaha.
The plot is great. If there's anything I'd say about it, it's that sometimes it felt repetitive... Like it was mentioning problems that have already been resolved (or seemingly resolved) in the past episodes. And the ending was a bit to abrupt for me. Not that I hate it.
Another thing, I don't watch that many mystery series that just go about one case for the entire series (I watch stuffs like CSI) cause they tend to be dull and boring for me, so this was a great change. It felt like seeing everything from the investigated's point of view rather than the investigator. Buuuut... Maybe it's cause I watch too many crime dramas... after about episode seven...? I could guess what was going to happen... Pffft... Something I've noticed whilst watching numerous shows is that after a long-ass while, the victim is

never someone new, nor is it rarely the focused suspect... It's the inconspicuous character.
And boy was I right.
It didn't take out the fun of it though, I enjoyed it through and through. Now it feels like there's a hole in my heart. This show gives me emotions.
The cinematography is just perfection. The sheer definition of thrill and suspense. ESPECIALLY THAT GODFORSAKEN CLOWN DOLL THEY SHOW OH MY GOD THOSE SCARE ME SO BAD. They're so creepy. Though by episode 8 I finally got used to them pft. The slightly darker tones were wonderfully used, the crows beautifully intertwined, some of the scenes tinted black and white... I sound like a lame poet but it really was awesome. The only thing that bothered me were how they suddenly used CG during one of the episodes with Isao hahahaha. Made it lose the thrill. But other than that one bit... it's awesome. The mansion was just oozing with un-homy-ness and un-comfortable-ness, which I guess is like the embodiment of Kurosawa Bunzo himself, it's seriously amazing. Not to mention the whole town was just eerie! More so the police office and investigation room! DAARK.
The characters, man... The characters...
I mean they were based off of a very very famous novel, I understand how they're so complex and amazing. But they're just portrayed so beautifully by the actors, it's unbelievable. I mean. I didn't even know the guy but I was seriously disgusted with Kurosawa Bunzo and I just couldn't help but feel Mitsuru's douchiness...

And the angel Ryo.

BUT THEN THERE'S

ISAO

NII

SAMA

ICHIHARA HAYATO DAMN YOU ATTRACTIVE MAN. Long story short, I'm in love with Isao. And his deep deep deep deep deep voice. And melancholic expressions. UUUURRHHHH...
I could write a whole entry about him but why bother.
And lastly the soundtrack! I don't know the entireity of the soundtrack so I'll just talk about what I remember hearing hahaha.
The background music for the most part was just as dark as the whole setting and plot, it matches well. Though the opening music gets old after a while for me.
Other than those, the drama also has a bunch of English insert songs. My personal favorite is The Rolling Stones's "Paint It Black" which I honestly hadn't heard of before this drama. But I love it. It gets played a lot in the earlier episodes when things are just heating up. IT GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS. But I mean... if you hear the song out of context, out of the drama, it isn't as intense? XD Apparently.
That's it for my incomprehensible blabber tonight. Recommended. If you like the sound of it. Got me hooked after two episodes.
I'm tagging this post under *reviews cause... I don't know... pfft...
