I've said it before, I'm saying it again, this is something I've wanted to properly do since... forever. So here's a review of a most-recent game I finished (and loved), Broken Age. It's not a formal, by-the-book review, it's me freestyiling this whole thing as I go, so... yeah.

The game is available on Steam if any of you guys are interested and also on a bunch of other platforms which I will list down below. I played this on the PC back when Act 1 first came out many moons ago (last year), and replayed (and finished) it just last week. So here's my take and what I think about it :) Spoilers will properly be hidden so rest assured :D
.
Title // Broken Age
Developer // Double Fine Productions
Platform // Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, Ouya, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita
Release date // 14 January 2014 (Act 1), 28 April 2015 (Act 2)
Genre // Point-and-click adventure
.
// A Little Explanation //

For those of you unfamiliar with the term point-and-click adventure, point-and-click games are a type of game where you interact with things/characters in the game simply by clicking the screen, and that's exactly what this game is! You click your way through obstacles, moving your characters, having to solve the occasional puzzles and riddles (that are really frustrating sometimes, truth be told).
In this particular game, you play two characters that seemingly has no connection or anything in common with each other, other than the fact that they're both teenagers. One is a girl from a town called Sugar Bunting, about to become a sacrificial maiden in order to keep the peace of the town. One is a young man who spends his life jailed in an overly-protective spaceship forever treated as a child by the ship's Mother.
It started out as a kickstarter project last year, released as Broken Age: Act 1, which of course I also played. It took more than a year until the release of the rest of the game, but I'm just glad it's finally here. I must justify before I start to voice my opinions, a lot of people aren't satisfied with how the rest of the game turned out, but I'm pretty content with it... So... Here are my opinions.

// Plot //

I give the plot four stars out of five! (This is apparently going to be a five-star rating system? lol) ...Or maybe three and-a-half.
You need to get pretty far into the game to get to the intriguing bits of the plot, so if you're easily bored it might be a challenge. But I usually give up on things early, but I persevered with this cause of the art, which I will get to in a minute. Basically, you jump into the story not knowing anything and what exactly is going on (well, that's how it was for me, anyway), then as you play more and get a grip of the way the gameplay works and the attitude and the characters' way of thinking, you sort of develop a certain curiosity as to how the story will evolve. The story started out a bit cliché, with the sacrificial maiden and baby-ed teenager, but it opens up into something... more? (I'm so vague omg this is hard) Since these sorts of point-and-click games are ones you play for the story, kind of like To The Moon or like various Visual Novels, in my opinion, you can really feel the effort they tried to put into the story, and I thought it was great.
IT'S SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO PLAY TO UNDERSTAND. Well, I mean, to understand without reading spoilers, you should probably just play the game.

// Art //

Five out of five! Cause if there's anything I watch/read/play, it's things with great art! And the art on this thing is top-notch!
It's not the everyday, futuristic, dynamic game graphics... It isn't exactly real 3D (?) either. Nor is it one of those pixelated 2D games. It's... Like a moving painting. Yeah. That's the best way I can describe it. It's like the designers of the game painted each scene on a canvas and just magically made it move, haha. It's not a conventional art-style, definitely.
You'll see that the characters have strange body proportions (not that that's unusual.) and body parts. But each of them also has their own... vibe and... uniqueness. And I think the things they wear and their movements are really complementary to their personality and all. The dresses are beautiful, the shirts and medals well designed, the costumes wonky and peculiarly great. Their hairstyles aren't exactly Elsa-from-Frozen flowy and beautiful, they're kind of stiff but suits the game in their own way.
The backgrounds. The backgrounds! They're simply masterpieces! I love them. If there were images of just the background available online I'd make them my wallpaper right away. While I'm speaking of backgrounds, can I just say... I love how fantasical the environments are and yet how real some of the things are.

// Ending //

Three out of five. I felt like I need to put this in, since this is a game judged a lot of by its story, the ending matters a lot, after all.
I'd say I'm content with the ending. Precisely just that: content. I'm not overjoyed or ecstatic or really happy about it, it's just... Okay. I don't hate it in particular either. I've learned by now that it's really really hard to find an ending (whether in movies, series, books, games, etc) that everyone loves... That I love. So I've just gotten over complaining about annoying endings and now I'm just happy whenever it concludes the game beautifully, which I think it did.
The last scene where Shay and Vella finally met and smiled at each other just made up my mind, I was like, "Oop. I'm satisfied now."
I captured this myself, btw.

// Gimmicks //

Five out of five. (Though why am I even rating the gimmicks?) Cause... The effort put in this game was great! And it started off as a small kickstarter project, which is amazing!
First, the VOICE ACTORS! It's got the greatest line up ever! And I'm not saying that just cause they're famous, it's cause they did a great job with their characters <3 I'll just name a few. The main characters, Shay is voiced by Elijah Wood and Vella is voiced by Masasa Moyo. Then there are voices done by Jack Black, Pendleton Ward, and Wil Wheaton! Those are my faves. Cause they did an absolute great job, heehee~
Second, the art. Which I can just fangirl about and rant on shamelessly for paragraphs after paragraphs, but I'll spare you the agony, it's great.
Third, the music. Usually when I play a game the music's just... there? I kind of enjoyed the one here, made my gaming experience a lot more fun.

// Pros and Cons //

Captured from the end credits
+ Art
+ Voice actors
+ Characters
- The puzzles got too hard on the second part of the game, in my opinion. (or I just suck)
- It took way too long for the rest of the game to be released, I sort of lost my interest halfway through... also forgot most of the story, which is why I had to repeat it again.
- I really want more details as to what exactly happened after the ending...

That's it I guess, I don't want to stretch the whole thing too far :) Please do play if you can! And tell me what you think~ XD

(My current picture is Trafalgar Law's Submarine, I'm so very obsessed with One Piece Grand Ship Collection right now, I'm basically poor, but I have lots of ship miniatures. More on that someday.)
