Sacchan Talks About Going to See Kimi no Na wa Alone
If you're worried about spoilers, don't be. I'm not gonna talk about the movie much, I'm probably going to talk mostly about the entire experience.
When everyone was hyped about FNS yesterday evening, I went to see the premier of Kimi no Na wa in the cinemas. Alone. For the first time. It was quite something so let me tell you about it. It's a long one.
I first heard about Kimi no Na wa a couple months ago before it was released in Japan from a friend IRL (yes I have irl friends that like anime too now how cool is that I never had much) who told me about this Makoto Shinkai movie he was excited about. So I looked it up and thought, "Hm. Looks like a decent version of 5 Centimeters Per Second. Maybe I'll download it when it's out." But from then on the hype just escalated slowly but surely. I kept seeing it everywhere online and other people hyping it, too. The fact that I'm a huge fan of awesome looking anime sceneries and Makoto Shinkai's works don't help, either.
Then when I was just watching Music Station like usual looking out for Eito's Panorama, I see Kamishiraishi-san (Mitsuha's seiyuu) perform RADWIMPS's Nandemonaiya, accompanied by visuals and graphics from the movie in the background. Her performance was mindblowing and her voice simply eargasmic. And the song's just great.
---
---
So I basically REALLY want to watch the movie at this point. But then Music Station just ups the hype EVEN MORE when they were announcing song rankings and showed this little clip of a student singing RADWIMPS's Zen Zen Zense and being adorable af.
And then after that I checked the song out on YouTube and just looked up the entire OST and listened to it non-stop. This was only a few days ago so my hype sorta escalated slowly in the span of weeks then skyrocketed in three days. My life's an emotional rollercoaster.
So anyway, I realize the movie was going to be screened in the movies where I live and decide I HAD to go see it ASAP. So when the date came I just couldn't calm down and I just wanted to see it already... Like, I was so jittery even the day before and I kept refreshing the playtime schedule in the website and it was just... I was a mess.
Thing is, the movie premiers on Wednesday, and I would just see it in the weekends with this one friend of mine like I usually do, but this weekend from Friday I had to go out of town for an event so that was a no. And there was no way I'm watching it after the trip, so all I had was Wednesday and Thursday. I also packed nothing for the trip yet. Things were going very well. To add up to my conundrum, the only cinemas showing it were in the city and nowhere near my university (Uni is like an hour drive from the city) and my classes finish at four pm. So after class I was just swallowing the fact that I might just have to suck it up and watch it after the trip, and spent an hour driving home as usual. But when I got home I didn't have anything to do LOL. So I worked up the courage to just go see the 7 PM show alone. And I did.
I drove all the way to the cinema to find it absolutely PACKED. And I mean packed. It's what I get for going to the cinema premier night, but I was under the assumption that it'll be less full than the weekends. Oh how wrong I was. I lined up for my tickets then see that the only seats free for the 7 PM show was the first row and a few seats at the far end of the second row. So I opted for the second row seat and went on my way.
It was only about 6.45 by now so I just waited outside the studio when I hear the original RADWIMPS version of Nandemonaiya playing inside(BOKURAAAA TAIMU FURAIYAAAA) and soon after people came out of the studio just talking about the movie and I was trying so hard not to hear anything they were saying lol.
Oh and I've said this before in my post about One Piece Film Gold, but the kind of people that watch these anime movies are always so similar and it just warms me somehow to see this much people that are into this kind of thing in one place. Somehow. I don't know. Forget it.
So after it was time I went in and sat down and it was just so damn close to the screen hahaha. Keep in mind that I'm the kind of person that prefers furthest back seat and that this studio wasn't exactly the largest. Also, something that I forgot to mention, was that the second row seat that was left was like this two person seat at the far right hahaha. And what are the odds that the person sitting next to me was a guy. Though I guess statistically and probability-wise it was probably going to be a dude cause less girls go to watch movies alone.
But anyway. I arrived and sat down first and the guy just paces up and down the stairs looking for his seat thinking he got his number mistaken or something lol. He probably assumed I was there with someone.
Then the seats started to get filled one by one when SUDDENLY THESE TWO COSPLAYERS COME IN LIKE... SHITTTT. They were in full-on Mitsuha and Taki cosplay with their uniform and bags even. Frickin' dedication man. Props to them.
I would take a picture with them if I didn't come alone, honestly. I'm much too introverted to come up to them on my own, haha.
Then after that nothing excited happened and I just watched the movie normally. And left after it was finished.
My short thought about the movie would probably be that the last parts were just super similar to 5 Centimeters Per Second and I don't know if that's a good or bad thing... I enjoyed every bit of it though and my eyes even more so. The visuals were so pleasing on the eyes. ALTHOUGH now that I think about it one thing that I'd like to say is, reading subtitles in such a huge screen from close-up in the far right corner is HARD. So I just didn't read them most of the time.
It was mother effing worth the entire up and down rollercoaster ride and huge effort though. No regrets.
And I'd go watch something alone again anyday.
Ijou.
